TOMORROW THE ISLAND DIES: IN CONCERT
at 54 Below

NOTE: SUBMISSIONS CLOSE AT NOON ON MONDAY, AUG. 17, 2026

On Monday, October 26 at BOTH 7:00pm and 9:30pm, Actor Therapy will take stage at 54 Below to present of a concert version of the brand-new folk horror musical TOMORROW, THE ISLAND DIES. 

The show is written by AT co-founder, RSO, and has been developed at numerous institutions over the last few years. This will be the first time the show has been presented to a paying audience in NYC.

After the success of our sold-out concert versions of Spring Awakening, Hair, 35MM: A Musical Exhibition, Legally Blonde, The Wedding Singer, and The Prom, we're delighted to be back at our favorite venue with:

·      an 8-piece chamber orchestra

·      rehearsals, staging and co-direction by RSO and Mat Armada Whitman

·      and musical direction by the fabulous Joshua Zecher-Ross (currently on Broadway as MD for Operation Mincemeat).

We’re stoked to share this show with the world, and CASTING SUBMISSIONS WILL OPEN ON AUGUST 10th. (See below for how to submit!)

Interested in joining us?

ELIGIBILITY — Any Actor Therapy student is eligible to submit as long as they:

·      have completed 2 or more 5-week sessions (with at least one of them being in 2026) …

·      or have taken one 2-week intensive of Actor Therapy in 2026 …

·      or have taken AT3.

·      (To be clear, that’s any AT3 class, ATWI 2026, ATSI 2026, or two “regular” sessions, one of which must be Session 79, 80, or 81. If you’re currently enrolled in Session 82 as your “second” session, you’re still eligible!)

·      If you’ve taken a one-off class in 2026 (such as a casting class), you may still submit—but please know casting priority will go to students with more class time this year

·      Our eligibility rules ensure that our musicals in concert are a way to take the work students have done / are doing in the classroom and apply it to a rehearsal / performance format.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE:

·      The concerts will be DOUBLE CAST with two actors playing each role completely for the entire performance. (That is, for example: one girl will play Widow alone for the 7:00pm show, and another for the 9:30pm show.)

·      Because of the unique nature of double-casting, rehearsals will involve both casts rehearsing together.

·      If you’re familiar with our other musicals in concert, we anticipate this one being significantly larger in scale.

·      There will be slightly more dialogue than in previous concerts, and…

·      The concerts will be completely off-book (!!)

·      There will be a chamber orchestra! 4 strings, guitar, piano, drums, and trombone

Unlike our Readings, not everyone who submits will be cast in this concert.

REHEARSAL SCHEDULE AT A GLANCE

1. The first sing-through rehearsal with the musical director will be on MONDAY, OCTOBER 12TH, in the evening from 7pm-10pm.
   All of the parts and harmonies will be pre-assigned with casting offers...so you'll need to be prepared and very familiar with the score by this date. THIS MUSIC IS HARD and the harmonies are difficult. This is an incredible opportunity to show us what you're made of: hard work and preparation will be key. If you do not honestly think you can learn this music on your own time (holding very challenging 4+ part harmonies), this may not be the ideal show for you.

2. There will be a staging rehearsal with the directors in Midtown Manhattan on THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15TH, from 2-4:30pm (FIRST CAST) and 5:30-8pm (SECOND CAST)

3. There will be RUN-THROUGH rehearsals in Midtown Manhattan on MONDAY, OCTOBER 19TH, from 6-10pm.

4. There will be a band rehearsal/sitzprobe with our 8-piece band in midtown Manhattan on WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 21ST from 6pm-10pm.

5. There will be a sound-check/tech rehearsal onstage at 54 Below on the day of the concert, MONDAY, OCTOBER 26TH from 2pm-5pm.

6. The performanceS will be onstage at 54 Below on MONDAY, OCTOBER 26TH at 7pm (FIRST CAST) and 9:30pm (SECOND CAST) — call time will be a half hour before each performance.

We expect you to be available for the entirety of all of the rehearsals above.*

*It is possible, if we are unable to find the correct person, we may make an exception to this. You are welcome to email us to discuss conflicts, or make a note in your submission, and we may consider you.

CASTING CONSIDERATIONS

How will we be casting this? What goes into our decision making process? In order of importance to us:

• FIRSTLY, APPROPRIATENESS FOR THE ROLE. First and foremost, we are casting as we feel would be done in a professional setting, honoring general casting practices related to this show, which include DIVERSITY, AGE-APPROPRIATENESS, and TYPE requirements — your vocal skillset, your energy, etc.

• SECONDLY, PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE IN READINGS/CONCERTS. If you’ve attended Actor Therapy readings, proven to be reliable, prepared material and demonstrated skill in preparing material with limited/no rehearsal, that can be a factor.

• THIRDLY, SENIORITY IN ACTOR THERAPY. We respect commitment to our community.

Casting will be announced in the days following this deadline. Out of respect for all those who submit, everyone will receive an email notification about our casting decisions, whether or not you have been cast in the show.

ATNW Song Submission Call: The Writer’s Room at the Laurie Beechman

ATNW is currently seeking song submissions from new musicals for the next edition of The Writer’s Room, taking place at the Laurie Beechman Theatre on May 22 at 7pm 

What We’re Looking For

• Uptempo songs preferred (midtempo submissions will also be considered)

• No ballads at this time

• Songs may be from a new musical or submitted as standalone pieces

• All songs must be under 4 minutes in length

For Selected Writers

Selected songs will be featured alongside work by other emerging musical theatre writers.

Required Dates/Times:

• Show: May 22nd at 7:00pm

• Tech: May 22nd 4:30-5:30pm

• Sitzprobe Rehearsal: May 20th 3pm-6pm 

• Rehearsal with Singer: May 14th 4pm-7pm 

• Won’t be needed entire rehearsal 

• If there is a conflict you may rehearse on your own time at writers expense

Casting

Part of ATNW’s mission is to feature Actor Therapy alumni alongside outside professional actors. For selected songs, we will provide a curated group of performers for writers to choose from, and we are also open to additional casting ideas as needed, including performers from outside the Actor Therapy community.

We ask selected writers to collaborate with us on casting, while the writer(s) will have final approval over who performs their song.
