ACTOR THERAPY ONLINE is a live-streamed performance class available online, modeled after Actor Therapy’s classic, groundbreaking training program. It’s all the magic of AT ... in the comfort of your own home.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  • Each class is held regularly once a week for one to two hours (depending on enrollment), live and online using the (free) Zoom app.

  • Before your first day you’ll receive a detailed handbook with dozens of helpful tips on navigating the business of being a musical theatre actor. You’ll fill out a diagnostic form to tell us all about yourself, and focus on a number of important branding and marketing strategies, including type.

  • Students send our remote accompanist PDFs (or jpegs straight off the phone) of full songs and audition cuts with personal instructions, and receive tracks of their songs prior to class. (Note: students may also use their own accompanist/karaoke track, accompany themselves, or just work scenes, sides and/or monologues!)

  • Every class, there are one or two master teachers in each class to give your feedback and guidance, plus a class assistant to help you and your 5-10 other classmates.

  • Each student gets a “Working 10” (10+ minutes) where they work on audition cuts, building their book, song Interpretation and more. Students can even have faculty review their audition rep, websites, self tapes, online material, resumes and headshots - or even, just talk about the business.

  • Your class assistant takes notes for you and sends them to you personally each week.

AS AN ENROLLED STUDENT, WHAT DO I GET?

  • 5 two-hour classes online as described above.

  • Access to an online Business Class(es) during your session (and/or in the weeks following). Each Business Class features a different topic: things like Networking, Social Media, Producing your Own Work, Managing Money, Surviving as an Actor in NYC, Goal Setting and Making Plans, Self-Taping, Intro to Actors’ Equity, Working Your Way Through Creative “Slumps”, and MORE!

  • Life coaching via email and text messaging with your instructors.

  • The wonderful world of fellow artists that make up our incredible Actor Therapy Community. #ATFam

WHAT DO I NEED TO PROVIDE?

  • You need access to a computer OR iPad with camera and sound access.

  • You will need to download the Zoom app. It takes less than a minute to download on most operating systems and is easy to launch and use. (And again, Zoom is totally free!)

  • If you’re working songs, you will need to be able to send pdfs/jpgs of sheet music. You will also need a strong source to play your tracks from, either your own computer speakers or an external source.

WHO CAN DO IT?

Most of our students tend to be between 18-35 years old, and have interest in pursuing a professional career as an actor. In our regular class times, we welcome students as young as 16 and upward to any age. You do not need substantial credits or education in musical theatre, but basic experience and understanding of how a professional actor works and auditions is useful.

And of course, location doesn’t matter! We welcome all students from around the globe — as long as you can be with us for our live class times!

"I am so thankful and blessed to have participated in one of the AT Online Sessions all from the comfort of my own home half-way across the globe in Jakarta, Indonesia. The experience was so rewarding and eye-opening; I have gained a new perspective about who I am as an actor AND managed to refresh my audition book. Thank you, Actor Therapy!!” -Dafi A.
