REQUIREMENTS IF YOU ARE CAST
If you are cast, it will be your responsibility to learn, work on, and coach your assigned material ON YOUR OWN TIME before our Sing-Through Rehearsal (more on this below.)
Additionally, in light of the excitement surround this event, we are asking anyone cast in the concert to enroll in Session 46 (remember your price always goes down — Newbies, if you don’t know how “re-upping” works, email us with “Question about Re-ups.”) and/or sign up for one or more of our Actor Therapy Coachings to ensure the material is worked up to our standard.
Note: We will not be casting anyone in the "Adult Male" and "Adult Female" tracks for this concert version, as those characters do not have any solo singing.
The characters will ALL be split up among multiple performers, so you're welcome to indicate if there is a specific song you're interested in. Unlike our Readings, not everyone who submits will be cast.
REHEARSAL SCHEDULE AT A GLANCE
The first sing-thru will be Friday, May 3 in the evening.
THIS MUSIC IS HARD and the harmonies are difficult. The sing-through rehearsal is just to put everyone in the same room and sing through the score with traffic patterns, etc...so you'll need to be completely off-book and performance ready by that date. This is an incredible opportunity to show us what you're made of: hard work and preparation will be key.
There will be one or two staging rehearsals and a band rehearsal TBA on Saturday AND Sunday May 4th and 5th. You will need to keep these two days clear. (A finite schedule may be released which will free you up for large portions of both days, to say, pick up a shift, etc.)
There will be a sound-check on the day of the concert on May 9th from 11am–1pm. Please also be available until 3pm for any last minute rehearsal necessary.
You must be available for all rehearsals above, though you may not be called. You’ll be notified at least 48 hours in advance if you will NOT be called.
How will we be casting this? What goes into our decision making process? In order of importance to us:
FIRSTLY, APPROPRIATENESS FOR THE ROLE. First and foremost, we are casting this as we feel would be done in a professional setting honoring general casting practices related to this show, which include DIVERSITY, AGE-APPROPRIATENESS (this is a show about youngsters), and TYPE requirements related to these roles — your vocal skillset, your energy, etc. We believe anyone we cast in these roles/songs could be cast in these roles in a professional production.
If two people are absolutely perfect for the same role, we will consider a few other factors:
SECONDLY, COMMITMENT DEMONSTRATED IN PREVIOUS READINGS. Have you attended other Actor Therapy readings? Have you worked hard to prepare material and demonstrated you can be trusted with featured material?
THIRDLY, SENIORITY IN ACTOR THERAPY. We respect commitment to our community.
THINGS WE’RE NOT CONCERNED ABOUT: If you’ve played the role(s) before; if it’s your dream; if it’s your mom’s dream; if you’re AEA/Non-Eq; if you really connect to the material; if you’ll bring all of New Jersey to see it. Those things are perks but they’re not what we’re focused on.
You may be cast as a back-up singer or in ensemble numbers without any featured solos ... if these tracks were good enough for Krysta Rodriguez, Jenn Damiano, Gerard Canonico, Matt Doyle, Jenna Ushkowitz, etc then they're good enough for you. However, if you'd prefer not to participate unless you're cast as a featured soloist — you may also indicate this on the submission form.
READY TO SUBMIT? All you have to do is answer a few questions!
SUBMISSIONS CLOSE THURSDAY, APRIL 4 at 11:59pm.
CASTING WILL BE ANNOUNCED ON OR BEFORE SUNDAY, APRIL 7.
